An undersized National Basketball Association (NBA) player who grows into a superstar, Stephen Curry, shares his story through the 2026 film “Goat,” released Feb. 13.
“Goat” is a family-friendly animated sports comedy film about a small goat named Will, who has the opportunity to play professional “roarball,” a high intensity, contact sport that is only played by the largest and fiercest animals. Faced with criticism and banter from his teammates, Will is determined to change society’s view of the sport and prove that even small animals can compete. The inspiring film includes themes of determination, teamwork and especially self-confidence when faced with doubt, all attributes of Curry’s own basketball journey.
The film was produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Unanimous Media, the same company that created the hit movies “Spider-Verse,” “Hotel Transylvania” and the fan favorite “KPop Demon Hunters.” With the same vibrant and energetic visual style as these other movies, “Goat” is likely to have the same success amongst fans. Additionally, the film features famous producers working behind the scenes, particularly Curry himself as well as Erick Peyton, Rodney Rothman and more, who are all known for being industry veterans and award winners.
Not only working with Peyton to produce the movie, Curry takes on his first voice acting role to see his vision come to life. Lenny WIlliamson, the character he voices, is a giraffe roarball athlete, significantly contributing to the story that epitomizes Curry’s experience in the basketball industry. As an undersized, injury-prone, athlete who was overlooked at the start of his NBA career, he learned to persevere and succeed, becoming a household name for many. With Curry co-producing the film, the story reflects his own experience, inspiring young athletes that they can be successful, no matter their size.
Alongside Curry’s voice acting, Stranger Things actors Caleb McLaughlin and David Harbour star in the show, with McLaughlin voicing the main character Will, also known as the goat. Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry, also stars in the show, being involved in both the cast and production team.
After approximately a year in the works, fans excitedly await the opportunity to view Curry’s story on screen. As Curry makes his debut in the entertainment industry, he hopes his movie will relate and motivate future generations who will have to overcome barriers in their lives for ultimate success.
