With graduation coming up soon, senioritis, as many call it, has affected nearly every senior, leaving them struggling to find the motivation to push through their last few months of high school.
Senior year is supposed to be the most exciting year of high school, filled with exciting events like Prom. Yet, for many seniors, it is more about surviving each day and trying to pass each class. The signs of senioritis are incredibly noticeable, with attendance rates starting to drop, assignments stop being completed and spending class time taking naps.
However, senioritis is not laziness; it’s burnout. After years of stressing over grades, extracurriculars and college applications, seniors are drained in their final year of high school.
Many seniors have already committed, or at least been accepted, to college, leaving many to question what the point of pushing themselves is. With the next chapter of their lives soon beginning, most seniors find it extremely difficult to focus on the current studies in front of them.
As seniors prepare for what comes after graduation, many begin to miss out on special opportunities that senior year offers. The real challenge seniors face is finding a balance where they can enjoy their final months of high school without giving up completely.
However, throughout the year, the school has offered several events and activities for seniors to participate in, allowing them to have some fun through the nerve-wracking time. These events, including sports games and school dances, give students a chance to take a break from school and the stressful things brought from it.
With absences beginning to add up on seniors’ attendances, many are not allowed to attend Prom later in the year. The school only allows seniors 18 absences in order to attend the event, and with senioritis taking over, many are missing out on this classic experience.
The dramatic decrease in motivation within seniors usually occurs during the second semester of their final high school career. Although many only look forward to graduation at the end of the school year, others begin to feel nostalgic of the memories each school year has brought them as they are not ready to move onto the next stage of their lives.
