Along with the start of the new school year, the girl’s golf season officially started Sept. 11 and the close-knit team is excited to be playing again.
“Our team’s good,” junior player Macy Lee said. “We just got our first win of the season, since we tied for first at our last match.”
The team has had a successful start to their new season. Not only has the team had great chemistry, but this year has been filled with both team victories and personal ones.
“[The highlight of my season was] probably when I got par for the very first time last week at our match,” junior player Eliza Lotterstein said.
Together, the players are very supportive of each other and create the perfect environment for fun and growth. This year’s team has become really good friends just a few weeks into the season.
“We’ve just clicked,” junior player Hadley Preston said. “It’s been so nice getting to know them and we’re all so funny so we have so much fun together. It’s perfect.”
Many of the girl’s favorite parts of being on the team are the connections they’ve made so far. Their close dynamic helps all the girls improve their skills.
“Everyone’s really positive and funny and we just all push each other to be better,” Lee said.
Team began scrimmage on Sept. 3, and when the league season started, they found that their instant connection helped ease the nerves that come with competitive sports.
“I get a little nervous because when you start and you hit, like your first shot, everyone’s watching you,” Preston said. “But once we start playing, I’m usually paired with people from our team, and I love them.”
The team finds enjoyment not only from playing in their matches, but by what they do together. Despite being considered an individual sport, the team has found ways to make themselves feel connected as a team.
“We put ribbons in our hair before the matches, so we can all match and have fun,” Lotterstein said. “We make it a team effort.”
This season has brought all of the players together, creating valuable friendships that have shaped their games and their experiences. They are excited to use these connections and new skills for the rest of their lives.
“My favorite thing about the sport is it’s something I can take with me for the rest of my life,” Preston said. “If I go into business, we can go golfing, and I won’t make a fool of myself.”
