The second senior event of the year, senior getaway, was held Sept. 17 at Golf N’ Stuff in Ventura, Calif., bringing together the senior class for a day away from the school.
“I had a lot of fun because I got to spend time with my friends, and I got to crush them in mini golf,” senior Asher Jonas said.
Seniors had several options of attractions and activities they could do while at senior getaway, including indy go-karts, bumper cars/boats, miniature golf and more.
“I liked the go-karts,” senior Anshul Katakwar said. “I crashed a couple of times, but it was still fun to go fast around the track.”
Everything the event offered, such as pizza, soft drinks, salad and dessert, was included in the $35 ticket price, as well with all the activities. Along with the included food items and activities, students were also allowed to bring additional money to play at the arcade and buy extra food from the snack bar.
“I thought that [the event] was really fun and a great way for everyone to be together and unite the seniors,” senior Caitlin McMillan said. “[My favorite moment] was definitely crashing into my friends on the go-karts.”
In past years, the school has done the event, senior picnic, which is usually held at Vasa Park. However, this year they decided to go a different route and replace it with senior getaway, ultimately getting mixed opinions from the seniors.
“I was originally supposed to plan senior picnic, but there were some issues regarding where it was previously located,” student council member and senior Caitlin Hoppe said. “After looking at a lot of different places we finally decided on Golf N’ Stuff”
Although some students may have been upset about the change in events, others thought that senior getaway was a better idea than what was held in previous years.
“I thought that [senior getaway] was a great event that the school should continue to do in the future,” senior Nyah Marley said.
Even though the event offered a number of things for students to do, the long lines were a main issue for many people and interfered with their time, after waiting in lines for over 30 minutes for each activity.
“[The only bad thing about senior getaway] was that the go-karting line was really long,” Jonas said. “So, I wasn’t able to go on it.”
Senior getaway was an overall success to many students who got to spend a few hours with their senior class and friends while getting to participate in several fun activities.
“I think the event was a really great experience to hang out with my senior class,” senior Kelthy Liu said. “I made memories there I will forever hold.”
