Along with the new semester, spring sports have sprung into action, and for the past few months, the school’s track and field team have seen a very successful start to their season.
“[The season has] been really good,” senior Caitlin McMillan said. “Varsity girls have won every meet so far, and most of us have a met a personal record every meet.”
Since the beginning of their season, the track and field team has been performing exceptionally. The girl’s varsity team has especially seen this success as they not only have been winning, but they have also been consistently hitting personal bests at every race.
“So far, [the season] is going well,” junior Grace Ramadan said. “I competed yesterday, and I got first, second and third in various events. So we’re doing good and have been [successful].”
During their practices, the team makes sure they are ready to win their next meet. They do the basics, like warm up laps, stretches and cool downs. They also practice their individual field events including shot put, high jump, long jump and more.
“The team is really close,” McMillan said. “We all have made a lot of close friends, and some of my best friends are on track. We have amazing [team chemistry].”
With the players’ consistent effort and determination, they have created personal bonds and relationships. This has allowed for a fun environment that allows them to unwind from their school days during sixth period, sometimes extending into the evening.
“We have a good team atmosphere,” Ramadan said. “Everyone cheers each other on and works together, there’s also a lot of healthy competition between people during the workouts.”
As players have been supportive towards each other, they push one another to do their best. This has contributed to their combined success, which they hope to continue during the remainder of the season.
“[I’m most excited for] the championships and Arcadia next week where we get to go to an invitational single,” Ramadan said.
