The 2025-26 National Football League (NFL) season kicked off Sept. 4 with the Philadelphia Eagles playing the Dallas Cowboys in a highly anticipated Thursday night match-up.
The Eagles were expected to win the game as they are coming off of a Super Bowl win, and they are heavy favorites to repeat. Saquon Barkley is a star running back and a leader of the Eagles. He previously had the best season of his career running for 2005 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first year with the team. Another star on the previous Super Bowl winners is Jalen Hurts; the quarterback was the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Another favorite to win the Superbowl is the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, the Chiefs lost in the Super Bowl 22-40.
They’re aiming to avenge their failures from last year by winning in the upcoming season. As of the start of this season, they are playing the Los Angeles Chargers Sept. 5 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Baltimore Ravens are one of the other heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl. The team has quarterback and two time MVP Lamar Jackson. Another star they have on the team is running back Derrick Henry. The Ravens also made big moves in free agency, such as signing free agent cornerback Jaire Alexander.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the New Orleans Saints are predicted to have the worst season in the NFL. They are considered by many to have had a poor performance in the offseason, acquiring no new or potential star players for their team. On top of this, they had a record of five wins and 12 losses last season.
Another team that is predicted to underperform in the next NFL season are the Cleveland Browns. They are notorious for not winning a single game in the 2017-18 season. Since then they have not recovered well as they have wasted draft picks on players who were not impactful to their organization. This year the Browns have had a quarterback controversy between Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The Browns organization chose the veteran Flacco to be the starter after drafting multiple quarterbacks in the previous draft which led to a large amount of criticism online due to this as the fans are wondering what the point of taking them was.
Regardless of the top or the bottom of the NFL hierarchy, the 2025-26 season will be full of surprises and entertaining games.
