“How to handle the work load?”
The increasing work loads can be very stressful when entering high school. For some students, the shift from middle school to high school is not very intense, but for others it can be jarring. The best thing to do in order to handle a large workload is to be organized. A good way to do this is to get a planner and write out all homework as it is assigned throughout the day. This both helps students stay on top of things, with the ability to see what is next, and allows them to not forget anything. Another good tip is to just take breaks. After a long day sometimes one needs to stop and do something fun to break up the assignments.
“What are the best study tips?”
The best study methods differ from person to person. Depending on how a student best takes in information, there could be various ways to study and get the most out of it. The only advice could be to try different methods and see what works best as an individual. Some popular ways, though, are making and using flashcards, physically writing notes and helping stimulate memory or studying with friends. Sometimes testing friends can help answer questions that might never have been asked when studying alone.
“How to fit in/how to find the right group of friends?”
There is no one way to fit in and make friends. If there were, life would be much easier, but one nice thing about high school is that students are surrounded by hundreds of their peers everyday. With all of these people that are sure to be many that share similar interests. A great way to find these people is by joining clubs. The school has over 80 clubs every semester with hugely different focuses, from National Honor Society to Dungeons and Dragons Club.
“How to get on a teacher’s good side without being a teacher’s pet?”
New students tend to be scared of becoming the infamous “teacher’s pet,” and while that’s an unlikely extreme, they also don’t want their teachers to dislike them. A good middle ground is to be respectful. Be kind to teachers and listen during class. Similarly, do the assigned work. It’s okay if a couple assignments are late, but don’t leave it so the last four months of work get turned in on the same Sunday. Don’t be afraid of asking your teachers questions as they are there to help. This won’t make anyone look like a teacher’s pet, just a good student.
