The (L.A.) wildfires have taken a toll on many people who lost their homes, or were forced to evacuate, even causing several impacts to professional California sports teams.
In football, the L.A. Rams were scheduled to have a wild card weekend game against the Minnesota Vikings at Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Due to the fires they had to play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Several Rams players had to evacuate the practice facility due to the Kenneth fire on the afternoon of Jan 9.
The Rams ended up beating the Vikings 27-9 advancing them to the National Football Conference (NFC) divisional round. After the game, Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford stated that the win was for the people of L.A. during the trying times.
In basketball, the L.A. Lakers head coach, JJ Reddick lost his home in the Pacific Palisades area due to the fire. Thankfully, his family made it out safely. The National Basketball Association (NBA) postponed the San Antonio Spurs vs the L.A. Lakers game so focus could remain on the wildfire efforts.
According to Lakers player, LeBron James, the aftermath of the fire was a devastating sight that no one could truly be prepared for. The Lakers first game back from the wildfires resulted in a loss to the Spurs 126 -102. Even though it was a loss, the game provided a sense of normalcy back in our lives.
The L.A. Clippers game against the Charlotte Hornets was postponed due to the fires as well. Their first game after that was versus the Miami Heat which they won 109-98. When asked about the wildfires, Clippers guard James Harden expressed his sadness and disbelief at the tragedy.
Multiple L.A. sports teams have donated to the Red Cross and other fire relief organizations. Many of these organizations are open to donations, donating any amount of money would help L.A. recover from all of the damages of the wildfires immensely.
