The National Football League (NFL) playoffs kicked off Jan. 11 with the Los Angeles Chargers playing against the Houston Texans at NRG Energy Stadium in Houston, TX.
The Texans beat the Chargers 32-12 in a dominant fashion with their defense intercepting Chargers Quarterback (QB) Justin Herbert four times. Derek Stingley Jr. contributed to two of the interceptions against Herbert.
The second wildcard round game was the Baltimore Ravens against the Pittsburgh Steelers, in which the Ravens won 28- 14.
The other wildcard games consisted of the Buffalo Bills beating the Denver Broncos 31-7, and the Washington Commanders beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20, due a game winning field goal by kicker Zane Gonzalez as time expired. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Packers in a comfortable 22-10 win.
Wildcard weekend ended Monday with the Los Angeles Rams beating the Vikings 27-9 in a surprising result.
The divisional round of the playoffs started Jan. 18, with the Detroit Lions playing the Commanders and the Kansas City Chiefs playing the Texans. In the Lions game, the Commanders upset them with star rookie QB Jayden Daniels playing an important role to lead them to their first playoff win in 20 years. The Chiefs beat the Texans 23- 14 in a highly controversial game in which the referees became a large topic of discussion.
The other divisional round games consisted of the Bills beating the Ravens 27-25 in a battle of the two biggest candidates for the Most Valuable Player (MVP). The Eagles beat the Rams in a highly contested game 28-22.
The Conference Championship games were between the Commanders and the Eagles. The Cinderella run of the Commanders ended as the Eagles won 55-23. The Bills versus Chiefs was much closer finishing 32-29 in the Chiefs favor. Late in the game the Bills had an opportunity to take the lead in the dying moments of the game but fell short as they could not convert on fourth and five which ended up being their last offensive play of the season.
This year’s Super Bowl, will be held Feb. 9 between the Chiefs and the Eagles in a rematch of the 2022 Super Bowl where the Chiefs won 38-35 in another highly controversial game.
The Chiefs are looking to win their third championship in a row which has never been done before in the NFL. The Eagles are looking to repeat the success of 2017 where they won their one and only Super Bowl.
Many fans are eagerly waiting to see who will be the Super Bowl champion this year.
