The small details that go into an amazing performance are endless, and the school’s Dance program has it all, from Beginning Jazz to Advanced Hip-Hop. “I have so much fun and learn so much everyday from my peers around me,” junior Eve Moskowitz said. The program, which includes various classes and types of dancing, such as Hip-Hop, Jazz and Contemporary, is an engaging and exciting class where students can let their creativity roam free. “I have had nothing but a positive experience during my time in the program,” Moskowitz said. “There is a place for everyone to grow and learn there.” Students in the program get the opportunity to perform for the school over the course of the year during pep rallies and the annual dance show, which usually takes place towards the end of the spring semester. “The anticipation and excitement to perform is a feeling that never gets old, and we love being able to show our school spirit,” Moskowitz said. “My team and I always have the best time performing in front of the school and we can’t wait to continue sharing our dances.” The collaborative and social aspect is an appealing part of the dance program, allowing students to build lasting friendships and experiences. “I enjoy the friends that you gain from meeting people in the class overall,” junior Alexis Charbonneau said. “Getting closer with the people in the group and dancing [is a good part as well].” For students who need to complete their required P.E. credits, dancing, led by Shelly Marshall, offers an alternative to the traditional class. “I only needed to be in the dance program for two years for P.E. credit, but I decided to stay longer because I love performing and having fun doing Hip-Hop,” Moskowitz said. In the program, the Advanced and Intermediate Contemporary and Hip-Hop groups are student-led and taught. At the beginning of the fall semester, students will go through an audition process to figure out their placement in the program. “You [are able to] strengthen your dance knowledge with other students from various different studios,” Charbonneau said. “It’s just so much fun being a part of something like this.” Students work hard all semester long to put on a wonderful show at the end of the year. Each year, there is a specific theme to the show which is featured on the physical tickets for the show. Students spend not only class time, but lunch practice to keep their dances looking pristine and beautiful. “You will meet so many amazing and creative people that will share similar interests with you and inspire you to continue dancing,” Moskowitz said. “Through the [endless] styles offered in the dance program, such as Jazz, Contemporary and Hip-Hop, there are so many opportunities to find your own style and learn.”
