The school cross country team is back practicing for the upcoming season filled with high expectations.
“We can all [beat our personal records] a lot this season because of just how hard we’re all training.” sophomore Derek Tsuan said.
Their high hopes, combined with the possibility of successful results, has created a very positive atmosphere among the team, in the sense that everyone pushes each other to do better.
“I think that a lot of the freshmen have a lot of potential,” Tsuan said. “They’re all [very] motivated.”
Motivation can be very difficult to keep up and especially in sports where there are so many obstacles that cause individuals to lose their faith in themselves.
“I think having a good team and everyone kind of supports each other really helps keeping motivated and having responsibilities to everyone.” senior Grace Ramadan said.
Motivation is not only individual but throughout the whole cross country team. Keeping each other accountable is one of the most important aspects of cross country which is a major focus for them.
“I think everyone kind of builds off each other and we have healthy competition between each other.” Ramadan said.
The team keeps each other accountable so they can improve their running and their stamina.
“[On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we do an easy run where it’s just a couple miles outside of the school or on the track and where we go at a talkable pace and run for a couple miles,” Tsuan said.
Runners have been able to bond over the time and dedication that goes into practices, allowing them to build friendships that could last a lifetime.
“I like running, and I think that it’s something to look forward to every day,” Tsuan said. we’re all we’re all [close] friends.”
