The school’s varsity football team successfully started their season with a 34-0 win against the Knight Hawks High School, Aug. 22.
“I’m hopeful about the season so far,” senior Shane Bogacz said. We have shown that we can be explosive and make some good plays here and there. We have to keep the consistency throughout the entire four quarters, but I’m hopeful.”
The team has a positive outlook for the new season, and they have had to work hard in the off season to keep their enthusiastic views on the coming games. While they have done work with weights, film and more, there is still more work to be done for the team.
“One of the biggest weaknesses [of the team] is people showing up [to practice],” senior Lincoln Elbert said. “We’ve got more absences than we’d like.”
Although there are commitment issues within the team at the moment, those who show up are ready and prepared for the upcoming challenges throughout the season. Through consistent practices, they can even pinpoint their strengths as a team.
“Our biggest strength right now would definitely be our defense,” junior Brody Lauritzen said. “It has been really good, especially during the scrimmages.”
The school’s defense showed its level in their first game as they pitched a shutout in a win that lifted the spirits of the whole team. The team’s performance was notable as they scored five total touchdowns, but they’re always looking to improve, and that is one of their goals for this season.
“I [have] hope that we have a better season than last season, and I hope I make everyone happy,” senior Arturo Acevedo said.
Hope has been a popular word for the team and represents their view on the upcoming games. The team’s positive language creates an atmosphere within the team that builds confidence and a good atmosphere among the team.
“It’s going to be great vibes,” Lauritzen said. “I’m very excited to play, and I think we’re going to show up and have great games for everyone.”
