Superman
Directed by James Gunn, Superman came to theaters Jul. 11, gaining popularity for its visual appeal, themes and action scenes. The story follows Superman, played by David Corenswet, and his journey to understanding what it means to truly be human. Throughout the movie he faces challenges in his personal relationships and comes across the main antagonist, Lex Luther, played by Nicholas Hoult.
F1: The Movie
Released in theaters Jun. 27, F1: The Movie articulates the competitive, yet connecting essence in racing. Brad Pitt starred as the main character, Sonny Hayes. The story unfolds as Hayes is requested to start racing again despite his age and past accident. Despite the constant rush to strive for first place, many scenes cover themes of teamwork, loyalty and acceptance of the past. Many fans have labeled it a film which provides a great experience with great cinematography.
Weapons
With its theatrical debut Aug. 8, Weapons has been regarded as one of the best horror movies of the year. The film is told through multiple character’s perspectives, having different ‘chapters’ based on each perspective. Praised for its eerie mood, tasteful soundtrack and phenomenal acting, it was a summer box office hit as it secured the No.1 spot its opening weekend, garnering $43.5 million domestically. Fans of both horror and mystery can agree Weapons is a horror that has left a large impact on the genre.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Starring Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Vanessa Kirby, The Fantastic Four: First Steps made its debut July 25. The film marks the start of Marvel Studio’s ‘Phase Six’, which is the third and final part of the Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, this is the third Fantastic Four reboot, and has been met with the most love. Set in the 1960’s, the story follows the Fantastic Four in their journey to save Earth from a planet-eating monster, Galactus and his herald, Silver Surfer. The end of the movie set up the Four’s return in Avengers: Doomsday, which will be released Dec. 16, 2026. Fans enjoyed the attention paid to the time period, as well as the fresh renditions on each character compared to the previous adaptions.
