The Back to School Pep Rally highlights school spirit, unity and community involvement while encouraging student’s participation in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year.
“We wanted something that was simple but something that students would still do,” senior Eve Moskowitz said. “We went with fun stuff that everyone would have at home and would be able to do.”
Cheerleaders lead spirited chants, high-flying stunts and crowd-pumping cheers designed to bring students, staff and the entire community together in excitement, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm that sparks energy for the year ahead. The dance team performed an electrifying, well-choreographed routine as well. They were filled with creativity, rhythm and movement, showcasing their talent.
“We had everyone on Student Council sharing the events early on and going out on the stage, getting participation.” senior Ethan Bastillo said.
Teachers also joined students in interactive games and activities reminding students that learning environments thrive when relationships extend beyond classrooms and into moments of joy and connection.
“It’s definitely one way to kick off the school year,” Bastillo said.
Pep rally games and interactive challenges engaged both participants and spectators, creating moments of laughter, bonding and excitement. For Cowboys versus Surfers day there was a fun bubble ball competition on the quad, and on Twin day there was a water balloon catching contest.
“It required a lot of collaboration between Student Council,” Bastillo said. “People shared flyers on their Instagram stories among other things.”
In addition, fall athletes were introduced to the crowd and celebrated for their dedication, determination and hard work. The junior varsity and varsity football teams took to the grass and had an ultimate tug of war competition, with the varsity team winning.
“The themes helped show school spirit,” Bastillo said. “Especially for events like football games.”
Beyond the recognition for athletes and sports, student artwork, banners and posters will brighten the rally space, creating an atmosphere filled with creativity and color that not only celebrates school pride, but also highlights the talent and imagination of the student body.
“It was something fun to do, and we wanted to uplift school spirit,” Moskowitz said. “I saw a lot more people dressed up than I thought.”
To capture the moments with their spirited outfits, the themed photo booth allowed students and staff to capture joyful memories together. It encouraged school pride while promoting unity, creativity and shared fun.
“It was nice seeing a lot of participation and spirit,” Bastillo said. “We definitely got a lot more participation this time compared to other semesters.”
To end, the Back to School Pep Rally concluded with thunderous cheers, uniting students, staff and community in celebration, while igniting excitement, pride and determination to embrace a successful, spirited and memorable new academic year.
“I loved seeing people in the hallways,” Moskowitz said. “It was fun to see that people actually wanted to be spirited at school.”
