One of the local cafes that serve matcha includes RE: Coffee, located close by in both Woodland Hills and Northridge. With a variety of matcha options, including their strawberry matcha, matcha einspanner, pistachio matcha and matcha lemonade, this place is perfect to try all different types. Like many other top-rated matcha cafes, RE: Coffee also uses ceremonial grade matcha, the highest quality there is, ensuring that their customers have the best. In addition to their delicious, creamy and photo-worthy matcha drinks, RE: Coffee also offers a wide range of coffee-based drinks and even some caffeine-free options. Another matcha cafe, located a little further in Los Angeles, is Malou Coffee. They serve ceremonial grade matcha from farms in Kyoto, Japan. While Malou does serve high quality matcha with the deep green color, it was lacking the smooth, creamy texture that would’ve been perfect. In addition to its matcha, Malou also serves many pastries and desserts that are also matcha flavored, like their pricey yet delicious matcha croissants. Unfortunately, because of its mediocre matcha, Malou receives a 5/10.
Unlike Malou, an incredibly popular and delicious matcha is Memorylook, located in Koreatown. Memorylook has recently become a sought-out location for the drink, with several influencers speaking highly of it. With a variety of matcha options, including te latte, einspanner, golden mango, haru and cocoa forest, every individual drink has its own unique and authentic flavor with a ceremonial match base.
Among the drinks at Memorylook, the top options are the einspanner and the haru matcha. The einspanner has an ideal mix of matcha and milk, allowing the delicious matcha taste to not be lost in the mix, yet not be too bitter for the majority of consumers’ liking. This pure flavor is instituted in the haru matcha as well, yet it’s topped with a butterfly pea foam on top, giving it a unique, succulent flavor that cannot be replicated. Therefore, Memorylook receives a rating on 9/10.
A more conveniently located spot is BobaTime, with several stores around the valley. BobaTime has recently added ceremonial matcha options, including a double matcha and an einspanner. The double matcha is one of the best in the valley, with a thick consistency and appetizing flavor. It is topped with a matcha foam top that simply adds to the uniqueness and taste. The einspanner is also delicious, but it doesn’t top the double matcha as its flavor lacks its richness. Therefore, BobaTime receives an 8/10.
BobaTime is not the only nearby place to get matcha as Jesse’s Grind is located in Winnetka. Although they are known for their coffee, their strawberry matcha latte and regular matcha latte have gained popularity. The strawberry matcha latte has a perfect balance of an authentic strawberry flavor mixed with the rich essence of their matcha. Additionally, they mix different cultural drinks together by offering a matcha horchata latte. Regarding this, the horchata flavor overpowers the matcha, providing a weaker taste in comparison to the matcha latte and strawberry matcha latte. Despite their small range of matcha options, Jesse’s Grind receives an 8/10 due to their rich, sweet flavor.
Lastly, in a location located further, Boba St. is a well known cafe in Moreno Valley which offers a variety of matcha drinks. Although the drive is long, this cafe offers a plethora of options such as the matcha einspanner, rose strawberry matcha latte, banana matcha latte and double matcha latte. Their matcha powder is whisked thoroughly and ideal in taste and texture. If trying matcha for the first time, one should aim to drink a latte similar to one from Boba St. While offering a large selection for individuals who prefer sweet or rich tastes in their matcha, they provide a thick, creamy foam on top of drinks, creating a perfect experience for a refreshing latte. Overall, Boba St. receives a rating of 9/10 due to their delectable flavors yet far drive.
