After nearly three years, Netflix released season two of “Wednesday,” the “Addams Family” spin off series, in two parts, Aug. 6 and Sept. 3, with a total of eight episodes, all filled with mystery and adventure.
Like the first season, season two has been a major success for Netflix and its partners, including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Television, Tim Burton Productions, Millar Gough Ink and Toluca Pictures. The series was ranked third in top television shows on Netflix in just the first week and received about 29.1 million views in the second week. It even broke a record, being the first English television series to reach the top title of the week in 91 different countries.
“Wednesday” continued to grow in popularity due to the well known celebrities who star in the show. The newest season continued to follow many familiar faces from the previous season, including Wednesday Addams played by Jenna Ortega; Enid Sinclair played by Emma Myers; Morticia Addams played by Catherine Zeta Jones; and more. It also featured some new faces, like Principal Dort played by Steve Buscemi; Agnes Demille played by Evie Templeton; and Isadora Capri played by Billie Piper.
The season starts after summer break and follows Wednesday, who is now the star of Nevermore Academy. After saving the school from a monster the previous year, she gained a lot of fame and attracted many fans–even stalkers. Adding to her troubles, Wednesday’s parents get in her way, as they are staying at Nevermore Academy to help with a fundraising gala. Throughout the first part of season two, Wednesday has to overcome her stalkers, parents and vision of her best friend’s death, all without her psychic powers, which she lost after overusing them.
The season still has a focus on Wednesday as its main protagonist, but also highlights the lives of the other Addams family members, including her brother, Pugsley; her parents, Morticia and Gomez; and even their chauffeur, Lurch.
Since the season was released in two separate parts, with the first season ending with a cliffhanger, many fans were quick to anticipate the next part on social media and come up with their own theories. The wait between the two parts only contributed to their eagerness to watch the next part.
Overall, season two continues the same exciting and binge-worthy energy as season one, showing Netflix’s success with the series.
