Fans have been waiting for the highly anticipated fifth season finale of “You,” a psychological thriller television (TV) series first released in 2018.
“You” is a TV series that begins with Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley–known for his role in Gossip Girl–as a bookkeeper after he meets a woman named Beck, played by Elizabeth Lail. Goldberg becomes infatuated with Beck, stalking her and creating the right opportunities to get closer to her while still attempting to live as a normal civilian. Goldberg continues to be a charming serial murderer, obsessively infatuated with the new love interest every new season.
Season five begins with Goldberg moving to New York with Kate, his wife from the previous season. Goldberg attempts to change and become a loyal partner and a balanced individual. Goldberg encounters a woman who breaks into his bookstore to borrow a book. After getting caught, she introduced herself as Bronte, played by Madeline Brewer, who becomes Goldberg’s next new obsession. Goldberg becomes charmed by Bronte’s vibrant, spontaneous energy and passion, discussing books. Many fans believed the show steered off since the ending of season four, believing characters like Goldberg are out of character. Some fans felt disappointed with Bronte, believing that she’s a one-dimensional character.
In its opening week, season five collected 10.1 million views, making it the most-watched Netflix series in the first four days. Badgley shared a positive experience with the season five ending, explaining in an interview that the ending would fit the character perfectly. Badgley makes a point that Goldberg shouldn’t get away with his actions, strengthening the idea that the final season delivers the justice the story needed.
