Expecting a glittering night, the iconic and annual senior prom for the Class of 2025 is being held May 31, 2025, with a glamorous “The Great Gatsby” theme at the Wallis Annenberg Building downtown.
“Planning prom started my junior year, when I picked out the venue,” Senior Event Coordinator A (SECA) Caitlin Hoppe said. “Senior year is when the majority of planning takes place. I had to talk to Administration and the tech office to get the go ahead on ticket sales, permission slips, etc.”
Every year prom is planned almost entirely by students, with the help of a professional event planning company. Beginning in their junior year, the SECA takes into account each detail necessary to make themost memorable night for everyone in attendance. This year they decided on “The Great Gatsby” theme, basing the look of the event on the classic novel.
“I like the prom theme because it makes the event feel more sophisticated,” senior Jayden Morita said. “I feel like it also adds some more anticipation because you can imagine how everything will look like based on
the book.”
With many students having read the novel in their junior year, the theme was a reflection of a glamorous topic that students could connect with and understand. Many are excited for the originality of it and how the venue will look dressed up in 1920s decor.
“To me, senior prom means having one huge last celebration with everyone before you all go your separate ways,” senior Nevaeh Marsh said. “I think that it’s the one night where everyone just lives in the moment.”
With school ending June 6, prom is planned as a way to close out senior year. The event will be bringing seniors together for on last time before graduation to celebrate the memories they’ve made over the past four years.
“Prom will be very memorable and something I can look back on to remember my high school days,” Morita said. “To me, senior prom is a celebration of getting through high school and acts as a way to wrap
everything up.”
From foreign exchange students marking an end to their time in America and seniors marking an end to their high school career, prom holds a heavy meaning in many students’ hearts. For many, the green light of prom is an essential part of growing up, one that they have been promoted their whole lives through popular culture.
“I’m looking forward to being able to share this once in a lifetime opportunity with [my friends] since I have been dreaming about this day since I was a little girl,” senior Brianna Sanchez said.
Prom is the end of an era for the Class of 2025. It is the end of their four years at the school, and a coming of age event that they get to share with their closest friends. The memories that will be made on Saturday night will never be forgotten.
“[I’m looking forward] to a great time with my friends,” senior Pasquale Rafaschieri said. “It’s the perfect ending of a chapter that has been a big part of my life.”
