After five years without any new albums, pop sensation Selena Gomez finally released her fourth studio album, “I Said I Love You First,” March 21, 2025. The album features various songs, including collaborations on songs like “Ojos Tristes,” featuring The Marias, which translates from Spanish to sad eyes in English and “Call Me When You Break Up,” featuring Gracie Abrams. Another song called “Younger And Hotter Than Me” highlighting Hollywood’s beauty standards and the societal pressures on the youth. Critics categorized this album as a pop, latin pop and hyperpop album, while others also claimed it to have so much more emotional depth than they thought it would have. However, some came public to discuss the lack of cohesion the album has altogether, expecting more from the artist after so many years without new music. The album follows the journey of Gomez’s past relationships to the current bliss and happiness of her and Benny Blanco’s partnership. Most recent news regarding the two includes their engagement that happened December of 2024. Additionally, her album features a very memorable voice recording of Gomez addressing the cast and crew of “Wizards of Waverly Place,” adding that personal and nostalgic feeling to this album. The song “Call Me When You Break Up” especially blew up on social media platforms as the singer-songwriter and actress began promoting it with a video with her collaborator on the song, Gracie Abrams. As a pop-hit and rising star, Abrams drew a lot of attention to the song and release of the album, which allowed for Gomez to achieve that popularity and streaming boost on platforms. Following the release of the album, Gomez made a previously unreleased track from 2017, “Stained,” available for digital download March 22, 2025. Not only that but she also featured a special track titled “Talk,” which made an appearance in an Apple commercial as a digital exclusive March 24, 2025. As her fans dive into this new era and album release, many begin speculation of a tour for the album. Her last tour being in 2016 for her album, “Revival,” was unfortunately cut short due to many underlying issues that stemmed from her Lupus diagnosis, leaving fans wondering whether or not she will tour once again. Not only has she kept her longtime fans in a trance, but she continues to draw in new fans with more publicity and connections between various different artists and their collaborations with her. Nevertheless, fans will continue to listen to “I Said I Love You First” and await the possible surprises she may possibly bring.
