One of the largest and most iconic annual festivals, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival, is back, taking place over the course of two weekends, April 11-13 and April 18-20, with several performances on multiple stages from both well-known and emerging artists.
Held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif., Coachella brings together a multitude of people from all around the world for performances from a wide variety of genres for everyone to enjoy. Headlining the festival this year are Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, Austin Richard Post, or Post Malone, Green day and a special set from Travis Scott.
In the past years, Coachella has hosted some of the biggest names in the music industry ranging from The Red Hot Chili Peppers to Lana Del Rey. Along with the headliners, the festival has sets from smaller artists including Charlotte Aitchison, more commonly known as Charli XCX, Megan Pete, or Megan Thee Stallion and Melissa–Missy–Elliot. Sets for headliners typically last from about an hour to an hour and 30 minutes while other acts last about 45 to 60 minutes.
Although the cost to attend Coachella is on the higher side, with general admission tickets ranging from $600 to $650, the lively performances and exciting activities offered make up for it all in the end. The festival also offers Very Important Person (VIP) tickets for people to purchase, varying from $1,200 to $1,400, which grants holders access to secured viewing spaces for performances, VIP restrooms, specialty food and drink vendors, shaded seating and much more.
As Coachella is held in the desert of Southern California, several people tend to camp out in tents and cars in order to get the ultimate Coachella experience. Although many choose the option of camping, these locations come with a price as general car and tent camping costs $149 while better spots can cost up to $375. These attractions allow any number of people to camp together, as long as they fit in the small space they are allocated. While this may seem as the better and more cost efficient answer to housing for the weekend, many past Coachella-goers have highlighted how these spaces can easily get cramped and hot.
In the camping area, there is also a vintage market that sells mystery bags along with select inventory from past years. Lot 4 which houses many of these campers is an infamous location where people gather to see the sunset on the top of the hill as the day closes out.
Along with the headlining music acts, the festival also offers multiple art installations that are meant to uplift small artists that customers can view in between sets. There is a Ferris wheel that is rideable free of cost, along with games to entertain festival-goers.
Additionally, there are multiple food and drinks stands around the festival that offer different dishes to suit all dietary needs. There are free water refill stations throughout the grounds as all ticket holders are highly encouraged to bring an empty water bottle to stay hydrated.
Coachella is an iconic and irreplaceable festival that will continue to deliver exciting performances for festival-goers for years to come as more amenities and acts are added to satisfy a variety of different music listeners.
