A green glow immersed the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. with the opening of “Chromakopia: The World Tour,” where rapper Tyler Gregory Okonma, more commonly known as Tyler the Creator, performed a plethora of songs from his new and previous albums.
The tour was initially inspired by his latest album, “Chromakopia,” which was released Oct. 28, 2024. Marking his eighth studio release and a follow-up of his previously released “Call Me If You Get Lost,” the songs incorporate his most-used genres of hip-hop, jazz and soul.
These songs weren’t meaninglessly grouped together; they essentially told the story of Okonma’s past through their carefully-crafted lyrics, as well as his mother Bonita Smith’s narration. This new musically-told story was displayed in bits and pieces during the tour, focusing on the ideas of family, fame, identity and personal experiences.
Some of the featured fan-favorite songs from “Chromakopia: The World Tour” were “Darling, I,” “Judge Judy,” “Sticky,” “Like Him” and many more. In most fans’ best interest, Okonma also performed popular songs from other albums, including “She,” “I THINK,” “RUNNING OUT OF TIME” and others.
Throughout the tour, Okonma brought special guests to different dates as a surprise for fans each night. Rapper Lil Yachty, also known as Miles Parks McCollum, and hip hop duo Paris Texas have been opening acts for Okonma on the stage at each date, playing short sets before he begins his performance. Additionally, at his final night in Los Angeles (L.A.), Calif., Okonma brought out singer Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, or known as Doechii, with the duo performing their song “Balloon” from his most recent album.
With 64 dates spanning North America, Europe and Oceania, Okonma sold out every show in a matter of hours as fans anticipated a tour since the release of his album. The tour will run until his final show in Manila, Philippines, Sept. 21. Okonma has stopped in major cities including L.A., where he ran a six-day residency at the Crypto.com Arena, making it the longest residency the stadium has seen.
After his previous album and tour, “Call Me If You Get Lost,” Okonma has risen to a higher point of fame and appeal as he continues to perfect his craft. The tour has been lively and packed with treats for his fans each night, committing to the theme of the “Chromakopia” album.
Okonma has made sure to make every show special, and has put on striking performances that will resonate with fans for a long time.
