After putting in the hard work to form strong team bonds and training to improve their skills, the girl’s lacrosse team has begun their season, lasting from February to April, with high hopes of success.
“I really like working with all my girls [when we play] both offense and defense,” senior Denise Nguyen said. “Our teamwork is definitely my favorite part.”
After beginning practices at the start of the fall semester during zero period, and in the spring semester during sixth period, for two hours a day, the team has spent a lot of quality time together. In their many dedicated hours they were able to form close-knit and supportive relationships with each other.
“The team dynamic is probably the best part about being on the team,” junior Emma Caniso said. “Even though we have a big team of different [ages] and personalities, we all still get along and [work] together.”
With the players’ commitment to the team and their coaches, Lilith Faucher and Richard Russell’s, motivation, they have formed a cohesive and enjoyable environment. Their common passion for lacrosse has led them all to succeed as a team.
“The coaches make it a really safe space where we all can have fun, but also [practice] seriously,” Casino said. “I believe I can speak for all of us when [I say] our favorite part of the day is coming to practice after a hard school day.”
Because of their tight relationship with each other, the team has created an inviting atmosphere where they all support each other unconditionally, further appealing to students interested in trying out.
“I was really nervous for tryouts because I never played lacrosse before or even picked up a stick,” Nguyen said. “But, in the end, I was happy I tried and made the team.”
Their tryout process, starting at the beginning of the spring semester, encouraged many new players to join the team, with some even trying the sport for the first time. As many new students have joined the growing team, they have put in a lot of extra effort and hard work to develop their skills.
“Sometimes practice can be hard and tiring,” Ngyuen said. “But even then, we still find ways as a team to have fun.”
No matter how difficult the sport can get, the team dynamic always stays strong and motivates players to stay committed.
“The team’s performance has been really good so far,” Nguyen said. “We’ve worked as a team to overcome a lot of challenges and hard teams. I really hope [we] can come together and work as a team and get some more wins.”
