As classrooms have reopened during lunch, many new clubs have begun to form, including Pickleball Club where students have the opportunity to play and learn about the newly popular sport.
“The goal of our club is to bring people to engage in the newest, fastest developing sport in America called pickleball,” club president junior Roman Mosavi said. “We love to teach people how to play pickleball so they can go out and have fun with their friends and with their family.”
Every Tuesday in C-135, the club holds meetings where members can share their passion for the sport with each other. The sport’s popularity has grown over time with the social opportunities that it poses.
“We want everyone to join our club,” club president junior Aziz Essid said. “We got the counseling office to be part of it and more than 60 students in our first meeting. We want to spread awareness for the sport.”
The club aspires to help the pickleball community grow, and they have done their best to bring in both students and faculty. In addition to their meetings in the classroom, they bring equipment and even teach their members how to play on the school’s tennis court.
“I chose to create this club so I can help people improve their pickleball skills,” Mosavi said. “I want to give people a new hobby for themselves in order to possibly create a new path in their lives.”
The presidents are especially passionate about pickleball and have been experienced in the sport for years. Their aim is to help spread the love they have for the sport to their school community, while also being able to interact with others who are fond of the niche, but popular, sport. As their club continues to grow, students can integrate themselves in the world of pickleball while being able to make friends.
“Pickleball can fulfill [peoples] lunch needs. They go to pickleball club, get exercise, they get to have fun, converse, be with new people and join the fastest growing sport in the world,” Essid said. “Who wouldn’t want that?”
